Everything you need to know about the Bastille festival in Sydney

Let’s brief you in on the Bastille festival in Sydney, where you’ll be transported to a Parisian party while staying in town.

The first Bastille festival was born in 2013, as a spectacular way to celebrate the French National Day “Bastille Day” with the people of Australia. The main themes are the best parts of France – food, wine and art! During the last couple of years, the festival developed into one of the most anticipated events in Sydney, with people coming from all over to enjoy the best France has to offer.

During the festival, you can expect food villages, wine bars, beer gardens, street performances, movie screenings, and a cabaret show. All painted in French colours – the “Bleu Blanc Rouge.” The location of the festival is the iconic Circular Quay and the Rocks area, with important landmarks like the Sydney Opera House, Harbour Bridge and the Museum of Contemporary Arts Sydney nearby. That means that you can enjoy Australian views while drinking French wine.

There are over 70 stalls each year – think baguettes, fromage, truffles, flammkuchen, choucroute (sauerkraut), and foie gras as dainty delicates. That’s not all, strolling the streets you will find eclairs, crêpes, and chocolate that have a mouth-watering taste, enchanting smell and look like little gifts of flavour.

The Bastille festival lasts for four days, bringing everything from fire twirlers to opera singers on the streets of Sydney. You can enjoy in magic shows, salsa parties, DJ sets, cabaret spectacles and street performances throughout the day and into the night. The city becomes even more vibrant than usual, painted in French colours and alive with the sound of music!
