One of the reasons that Harbour Rocks Hotel stands out amongst other Sydney hotels is its proximity to The Rocks. The importance of this cannot be overstated. The Rocks is a truly unique neighborhood, offering everything for both locals and tourists.
The Rocks’ history dates back to the 1700’s, around the time that Sydney itself was officially established. The Rocks District is the first place that Europeans settled in Australia.
Why is it called The Rocks?
The official website states: “You can see them in the rock face that gave the area its name, the roughly-laid cobblestone laneways…and the crushed cockle shells that make up the mortar between huge, hand-carved sandstone bricks.”
While there are many unique neighborhoods sprinkled throughout Sydney’s downtown, few are accompanied by such a rich and vibrant history. The Rocks opens doors for cultural exploration, tourist activities and one-of-a-kind shopping.
